Rank Strangers
This is a track with a strong story and is a favorite of Alfie’s that he sang acapella on his last tour. Do you have a favorite song you have heard Alfie play live?

Wow glad you posted this. I’ve never read this one!I am a big Stephen King fan too but all my books were lost in a house fire. I try not to think about it, since I lost some first editnois. *sniff*Thanks for stumbling I stumbled you back!Kristin
I’m a Stephen King fan too! I really like nolealvs in Different Seasons (my favorite being Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption). I need to break away from blogging long enough to start reading again because I really miss it!
Good Lawdy! Someone is actually proud of that name!Hi, setptod you on SITS, clicked your link and was happy to have found a new, great blog. After reading your “About Me” I can see we have a few things in common. Mainly, attitude. But, in my life I have one husband, 3 teenaged daughters and 3 girl dogs. My life is all about the bitches, literally. And I might, (as she whispers) be in my 40′s, but we’ll just leave that little fact out of there. Love your blog! I’ll be back.
I attended your performance with the Taberbacle Choir in Salt Lake City twice last weekend. You lifted my soul. Thank you.
Dear Alfie, I don’t know if you will receive this, but I would ask a big favour from you. My friend, Trisha Paling is seriously ill in hospital and has missed your concert in Birmingham for which she had tickets. She is awaiting heart and kidney surgery and is on Ward 2, Cardiology at Gloucester Royal Infirmary. It would so make Trisha’s day if you could pay her a visit to cheer her up.
Have a Very Merry Christmas.
I got your record Alfie for Christmas today. I’m playing it now while I type. My daughter tried to buy me your book My Story but they told her at Barnes and Noble it was no longer being printed. Sorry to hear that but I do love your record.
I got Storyteller for Christmas. I have just played it and found it heart wrenching to listen to because I couldn’t find your voice, For the most part your register was lower than I am used to. Then I began to understand what you had written the packet in the cd cover–that this cd is about you developing and going forward. The songs are beautiful and you have given them a new life. Lots of luck to you and your team.
To Alfie Boe and his fantastic crew/backup for Storyteller. The first time I listened to this cd a day ago, I wrote to all in this site that it had been heart wrenching to listen to Storyteller because I could not find your voice. I just finished listening for the second time. I smooth-shuffled to the rhythms or cried at the sadness of lives being sung about. As always, thank you for the small booklet in the cd explaining the process, the musicians , the back up singers. . . and that you were thrilled with the results of this album.
You I’m glad you are pleased It will be revisited by many. I must also say that I did find your voice, it was closer to the spiritual, traditional songs of a harder/sadder life than many of know.
The best of the new year to one and all.
Ginna Ondricek Massachusetts.
My husband and I have a running battle about the music on Storyteller. He says that even without your voice, the music would be sufficiently wonderful. I say that you could sing the entire album a cappella and it would be the greatest. In fact, I wish that your signature moment on every album you do in the future would be an a cappella song. It is your voice that is the music and is the magic. Keep on creating the music you do!!!
listening to your music gave me the strength to over come gruelling treatment for rheumatoid arthritis
please can you come to durham area i had tickets for your sage concert but was in plaster
Brilliant albulm!! really enjoy lidtening to it
Completely mesmerized with Alfie’s voice and the genuine presence he brings to his trade. Love being the recipient of his gift from God…a fabulous, generous voice and soul.

Thanks for being such a great example and inspiration to me. I have loved your music for such a long time! I was SO grateful to have the opportunity to watch you sing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir this morning! I hope you have safe travels!
Merry Christmas Alfie!
We heard and watched Alfie perform live this morning, Sunday, 16 Dec. 2012. Alfie was performing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It was a wonderful (actually fantastic) all round performance! We were blessed to have been able to attend today’s session. Thank you very much, Alfie! Andy & Deb McKane, Springville, Utah, USA

Merry Christmas Alfie!
I am a huge fan, but I miss your opera recording. I have your CD with only opera and while I have ALL the others, too, it remains my favorite
Your voice is a gift to be shared with all your fans. Please don’t eliminate opera entirely. Thanks.
We saw Alfie Boe sing last night with the Morman Tabernacle Choir.
He has a fabulous voice and we gladly waited in line 2 hours after in Deseret Book to get a disc signed !
Beautiful ! ! !
What an amazing talent. just watched Les Meserable….made me cry.
Such passion in your singing.
Cant comment as CD not available in USA– Would love to buy and hear it but no one in Fla has it — Happiness Always Alfie
Alfie, the new album looks great – can’t wait till I can get my hands on it. Just got your book from Amazon.com and was excited to see it already signed!! Made my day when I pulled it out of the package.
We were in London last night from NY and happened to see your show and loved it! We would love to see you again in NY woihtut the colds! There are PLENTY of people in NY that could use your help and inspiring show! Our only advice .. If you move the show to NY you might have to talk a little more about your career as we only stumbled on the show and we had absolutely no idea who you are! Luckily the lovely women sitting next to us filled us in! PS PERK UP Or as we say in NY . GET THE F OVER IT!
Alfie you make my world come Alive dddefinetly buying your new album I saw you in glasgow hope you come again to Scotland very soon
When I listen to Alfie sing, I forget I’m crippled with arthritis. There is no more pain, just the joy in his magnificent voice. I am so looking forward to his concert in Albany, NY. Got my tickets.
The first time i saw you Alfie was on the dvd of the les miserables 25th anniversary concert and completely fell in love with that voice. I watched it over and over again, i then found out you were going to be at london playing Jean Valjean so i purchased tickets straight away but sadly booked the wrong day and you wasn’t going to be there. I was so upset so i called and managed to change my tickets to a date you were there and it was worth it, as you were amazing. I got front row seats and i cried so much at the end and i will never forget that show. I hope one day to see you again you are truly fantastic x
I can tell you are a kind and honorable man. How? Your eyes. You have my mom and Angela Lansbury’s eyes. You can see into your soul and I see kindness. Absolutely the best singer and love the videos with Matt Lucas. You two are great together. Funny and moving and then you go into character in a split second and sing so beautifully. I get chills. Please try to come to the State Theater in New Brunswick, NJ when you can.
Alfie Boe has one of the most naturally beautiful tenor voices I have ever heard. That has been many over 83 years. Warm and hauntingly dark in the lower register. Crystal clear and sweet highs. He may have been a raw talent discovered in an auto factory, but he is an exquisitely finished talent of art now.
My Dad loved Le Mis for years and I wished he’d told me of his like for you and the play. He passed away 27th Nov at the age of 80 and Mum told me about “Bring him home”, I said I remembered it being played on the radio and since playing the youtube 25th anniversary, I can’t get enough. It’s such a powerful heart warming performance and it helps me with the loss of my Dad. You have a wonderful gift Sir!
Dear Mr. Boe. I am a 48 year-old former rugby and American football player, father of 4, but I seem to have accidentally developed a man-crush on you! With the Les Miserables movie premiere coming soon, and being an uncultured heathen, I thought I should do some research as my wife told me I was going on opening day, come hell or high water.
Enter Youtube, search les mis etc.etc. and next thing you know I am watching a bearded uniformed man named Alfie Boe singing the most heartfelt beautiful rendition of Bring Him Home. I told my wife that my goosepimples had goosepimples and she had to hear this, and for once I had the upper crust upper hand because she had seen Les Mis on the West End in 1999 without you as Jean Valjean. I win!
Thank you for your extremely moving inspirational singing. I have already exposed a new generation to your talents in my daughters. In my eyes that counts as a legacy, wouldn’t you say?
God Bless you and yours and again thank you for using your God-given talent so beautifully.
I have just purchased “Storyteller”. What a great, strong voice Alfie has, you can understand each word he sings!!!. For me the best track is “Rank Strangers To Me”,and to admit it was recorded in ONE take,it shows Alfie’s and the backing groups musical ability.Well done, when is the next album due??.
you asked about a song I sang to my son…when my first grandchild was born, I made up a song just for him. He’s five years old now and still asks me to sing “Cutest Little Kid on the Block”
Met Alfie at owlcoates leeds what a genuinely nice man he signed my Les Mis tshirt for me gettinh his leg over the table to make sure it was right thanks again alfie in a year that hasnt been the best for various reasons this was a major highlight for me
Lyricists? There are so many good ones but one singer/songwriter who writes beautiful lyrics is Graham Connors. “Ringer and the Princess”, “Big Jimmy and Felicidad”, “Sicilian Born”, and “Let it Rain” are songs written with beautiful lyrics by Graham Connors. The music is pretty good too.
Storyteller is brilliant! It touches my heart in so many ways. Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood was such an unexpected surprise and If I Can Dream did not disappoint.
Alfie, job well done! You’ve reached into my heart and grabbed my soul!
I ALWAYS LOVE LISTENING TO YOUR MUSIC– a QUESTION.!. HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF SINGING “AUTUMN LEAVES”
IT HAS BEEN A FAVORITE OF MINE FOR A LONG TIME
Catching up here; my favorite love song is “Always” by Irving Berlin(another I would LOVE to hear you sing some day!) As for Rank Stranger, I loved it a capella, which I sadly only saw via a video. but heard it accompanied live in Kansas City and New York. Absolutely loved it.
Alfie,, Matthew Hogg from Newry Co Down N Ireland, I am so proud of you, you are a credit to your family and to the people of the Uk & Ireland, I wish you and your family a lot of joy in the years to come
Matt
when will you be coming tp michigan at the fox or the fischer theatres in concert?
PLEASE SING “AUTUMN LEAVES”
IT HAS BEEN IN MY MEMORY BOOK SINCE 1959
The storybook is inspiring. Just before my 56th birthday someone asked me if there was anything in life I regretted. The only thing was that I had never fulfilled my dream to learn music and to sing the classical pieces I dreamed of singing when I was a child. I realised I was leaving it a bit late to be a musical prodigy and so I found a great teacher and squeezed the learning in around being a full-time carer to my autistic son. That was four years ago and now there’s a new bit to the dream. 2013 is my 60th year and I’ve decided to fill the whole year with amazing things. Top of the list is to perform, maybe as a charity fundraiser for autism as services are almost non-existent where I live here as an english ex-pat in rural Ireland. Never too late to live a dream !
When I was in high school I sang a solo in the New York state singing competition – “The Joy of Love” I have always loved that song and the version that Elvis did. It is a lullaby and I sang it to my boys when they were little. I also sang them “All Through the Night” and “Edelweiss.” Now my grandchildren sing “Edelweiss” to me. I love to hear them sing with their beautiful clear voices.
Just watching him on TV but missed the beginning.Where was he born? Why did I ever think he was Welsh?? I sing and I come from Huddersfield. His accent sounds a bit like mine.
i would love to hear YOU RECORD A FEW OF MARIO LANZA OLD SONGS WHO WAS MY FAVOURITE SINGER IN MY YOUTH THEY WOULD SUIT YOUR VOICE PERFECTLY
Dear Alfie,
I am compelled to write to you having just watch your hugely emotional interview on the BBC. I live in Germany have been year since 1974 having served in the army until 1981. I can totally relate to your story as my life has been some what similar.I was born in 1957 on Merseyside, so grew up with a the Beatles era.My dad was forever singing, and your story of playing the drums with the cushions really rang a bell but I used different parts of the couch. I just really sang in the bath or after a game of football with the works team (after one or two beers). Then in 2005 our company GEA (Global Engineering Alliance)formed their own band to which I became the singer. I now also do my own thing and sing in a choir. I also have been told off for messing around and being silly , which is not difficult living in Germany;.I would ssssooo love to meet you one day. You come across as a really nice bloke who like myself hasn’t forgotten his roots.
Best wishes
Mal
Alfie, your interview with Fern this morning was so heartwarming. Have to say, I shed a tear at some of your special memories. When you sang Puccini at the Royal Albert Hall you blew me away. Onward, storyteller – you have the very best ahead of you.

I have today just watched the programme ‘Fern Britton meets Alfie Boe’ on BBC 1 about your life and rise to fame in music so far. I could really relate to your story and how your relationship with your father and the importance of your faith has meant to you during your upbringing. I am also so pleased to see a Northerner making such a success of his art in the music industry. You have certainly come to the forefront this year and I am only now beginning to discover the real ‘Alfie Bow’ and what an amazing talent you are! Therefore, it is far to early for me to say exactly what my favourite song would be however so far it would have to be ‘Bring him Home’ for numerous reasons ever since I saw ‘Les Mis’ in Edinburgh when celebrating my 50th birthday, also this show was my best friends favourite, I only now realise how sorry I am to have missed seeing you perform ‘Les Mis’ recently in London. Sadly my friend and my father are with us no more but then music helps us all to remember the good times we all had. Am off to the Trafford Centre tomorrow to get your latest album which spookily was also I notice released on my birthday, and that is another Christmas present solved! I wish you all the best in your future career and will look forward to seeing you perform wnen you are next in Manchester!
May God Bless You and all that you do,’Laborare Est Orare!
I have been a fan of Alfie Boe since the first time I heard him singing at Les Miserables’ 25th Concert. I decided them ant there that I would have to go see him singing in person if he ever came to NYC. I missed that chance, but I will grab the one in NJ this coming January. What a joy to hear his voice!
Mr. Boe, The 25th anniversary of Les Miserable was on our public TV channel last night. I went to my computer and found your bio. You are a role model and inspiration to all young aspiring youth. I will be purchasing your albums, so I can enjoy your beautiful voice often.
When will tickets go on sale for your concerts in USA for Spring/Summer 2013?
Will you be coming to Ireland
We have just had the pleasure of listening to storyteller, nice relaxing songs and music good mix.
Looking forward to your show at Edinburgh playhouse March 2013
hope you and your family have a nice christmas
Alfie, thanks for coming to Glasgow, it was a pleasure to meet you. You seem so ‘down to earth’ that’s so refreshing considering your amazing talent
My first introduction to Mr. Boe was in London when he was in Les Miserable at the Palace Theater. He took my heart then, and again in SD a few weeks ago. Although he sings classical like an angel, I enjoyed his “rock and roll” style almost as much. He sounds a lot like Elvis…Is he going to do more like the concert in SD?
I only wish I could find the words to his latest music because my ears are failing and I like to sing along.
Boe is awesome.

Attended the same Junior school as you in Fleetwood, Lancs, and so very proud of you,and your Elvis “Falling in Love with you” track has moved me more than his original one!!
I am so lucky, i went into Asda in Fleetwood earlier this evening, picked up Alfies book and was amazed to see its a signed edition….i looked through all the rest and this was the only one which was signed!!!
Please, please, record a Christmas album; I can’t believe that you haven’t none that already. Your voice is NEEDS to record Christmas music, believe me!
What a fantasic voice and a great personlity in one special person would love to see him in concert
Just superb.
Keep up the good work,please.
Thanks for taking my advise Alfie, i knew the first time i heard you behind the blue screen at the garage singing that you would be great one day . i remember saying to you i thought i was listening to a record playing and should take it further well done
Met Alfie in Widnes yesterday – was blown away – what a fantastic guy and so personable – his charm exceeds his musical talent and that is saying something – thanks Al x
I can’t say that I have one specific traveling song, but what I do have is an MP3 player with nothing on it but Alfie Boe music. When I’m away from home, that thing is on, and it stays on. I play it all, from Be Still My Soul, Angel from Montgomery, A Living Prayer, Desperado, Eleanor Rigby, Wayfaring Stranger … etc. If it’s Alfie, it’s on, and I’m happy, traveling in my car or sitting in my house.

Last night in Boston was awesmoe Alfie! I guess as a Les Mis fan “Bring Him Home” is always my favorite. I didn’t know I was going to meet Alfie the rock star, that was great! I hope you can finally get the “Park the car in Havard Yard” thing down. Hopefully when, not if, you come back you can practice that one and make up a song out of it! Thanks for a great evening of songs and laughs. Come back soon!
What’s it all about, Alfie? Can you truly be for real? Talent incomparable, a smile to melt the polar caps, and a loving heart that shines in your eyes. Thank you, thank you, “Les Mis” for such a God given gift. i can’t stop watching & listening to that magical voice & I’m a septuagenarian! Love u, Alfie Why isn’t The United states on your website?

Re: Alfie’s question on Wayfaring Stranger, I have to say that I don’t recall knowing this song before. I think I may have heard it in the past, but it’s not fresh on my mind. While I naturally have not heard the CD version, having seen the videos of him singing this in Dallas and other US cities, Alfie is the king of this song. The Dallas version was my favorite. It’s haunting and was so very soulful. The song has become one of my very favorites for him. It’s the new Bring Him Home in my opinion. That’s how much I love his performance of Wayfaring Stranger. Alfie, your version is THE version.
Wow, superb blog layout! How long have you been blogging for? you make blogging look easy. The overall look of your site is fantastic, as well as the content!
I remember listening to my dad’s old Tennessee Ernie Ford albums, and this was one of my favorite songs. When I hear you sing it, Alfie, it takes me back to Sunday afternoons listening to my dad’s TEF albums. Your version is my new favorite. Thanks for the memories!
The song that seems to hold the most meaning for me now is Wheels of a Dream. I first heard it live in Kansas City and we were sitting just behind Sarah. When Alfie sang, he sang to her and it was definitely baby Alfie he was singing about. It was electric and now transforms me to KC each and every time I hear it. That’s story telling! I am so looking forward to Christmas because I know Santa will deliver.
My husband Barry suffered a serious cardiac arrest on 31st Oct 2011 (age 47) and it was not expected that he would survive as he was without a heart beat and oxygen for over 75 minutes. During the following week, my 72 year old father Sam, (who had also suffered a heart attack August 2011) sat at Barry’s bedside praying to be taken instead of Barry. Never has the Alfie Boe song — Bring him home, meant so much to us at this very difficult time. This song and Barry’s strength and determination along with our positive mental attitudes brought him home safe and relatively well (Dad is still with us too). Barry and I are so much looking forward to seeing Alfie in concert at Sheffield on 5th April 2013 — expect lots of emotion and tears from both of us. God bless you xx
Just a few days now to launch day! Not sure if we’ll get any more pages added to the book but listening today to the radio interviews and particularly about how Rank Strangers was recorded I am really excited about finally being able to play the whole thing all the way through!!!!
Just listened to Storyteller. I loved it, every track! RANK STRANGERS took my breath away.Recorded in one take!STUNNING! Well done Alfie
Storyteller is Amazing. RANK STRANGERS is stunning. only one take! WELL DONE ALFIE !

Undeniably consider that that you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be at the net the simplest factor to take into account of. I say to you, I definitely get irked while other people think about issues that they plainly do not know about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest as smartly as defined out the whole thing with no need side effect , folks could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
I lost my husband Andy after 39 years of happy marriage (he was only 56 – my teenage sweetheart)in 2009. The first social event after his death was to see Alfie in Bournemouth and that gave me a huge step on the way to living again. Our song was “Bridge over troubled water”, Simon and Garfunfel and the first album Andy bought me. We played it at his funeral and now Alfie is singing it – it brings tears to my eyes but fond memories. I have front row seats for the gig in Bournemouth on 3rd April 2013 and hope that Alfie sings it then. I will close my eyes and think of Andy and feel our love again. God Bless you Alfie for bringing his love back to me.
Alfie, been a Geordie my favourite group has always been Lindisfarne (Original lineup) Alan Hull and the boys wrote some fine songs any chance of having a go at one of them.
Remember i cut your hair in Fleetwood Manor Rd.now living in Tusacany and glad of your success ciao Guy
My favorite version of Wayfaring Strangers is, beside yours, from Jack White. I first heard this song in the movie Cold Mountain and I liked it very much. I had completely forgotten about it until I heard your version. Jack White`s version is quite different from yours; that`s what I like about it, same song but so different at the same time. Thanks for putting it on your CD, it is now a favorite of mine
Wayfaring Stranger: This was a new song to me. I was blown away when I heard you sing it via one of the Dallas concert videos; each rendition by you in subsequent concert videos has cemented this song as a favorite. I listened to versions by the singers you mentioned, and out of the four versions, yours is definitely my favorite. Prejudiced? nah.
(Well, maybe just a little… )
My favorite other version of Wayfaring Stranger is Eva Cassidy’s. Although nothing can match hearing Alfie sing it with such heart in Hartford and Boston. The two versions are so different and both so special. Also, Alfie and Eva share the same approach to music with no limits based on genre. Eva’s version is so compelling given her personal story. I wish Alfie and Eva could have sung together.
I have hearing loss and seldom go to concerts, but I wanted to go to Alfie’s in Toronto. But Alfieâ

The only other version of Wayfaring Stranger I’ve heard was Kristin Chenoweth’s, which was beautifully done. The snippets I’ve heard of you doing it sound great – can’t wait to hear the whole thing!
Yours Obviously!!!
I’ve heard Wayfaring Stranger my whole life because my father, Charlie, loved this song and played it himself on a classic Gibson guitar while I was growing up. He loved Johnny Cash and Tennessee Ernie Ford and Slim Whitman and all those great country legends. Dad used to pick and sing songs from them all. Dad always wanted to be a cowboy too. He had the hat, the boots, the belt buckle and the guitar. Iâ
My favorite version of “Wayfaring Stranger” so far was performed by Trace Adkins. In case you haven’t seen the YouTube version, here’s the link:
Cant wait to hear your version of this song, since you have the ability to touch my very soul with your voice.
Thank you, Alfie, for all the joy you’re precious gift has bestowed on me! I look forward to the years to come!!!
Alfie, just been listening to your take on the songs you`ve picked for the Story Teller album.I am loving it all as it is all songs I was brought up listening to. In fact music of all sorts was integral in growing up, be it listened to or being sung especially on car journeys. never a dull moment.
Can`t Help Falling in Love is as you say a perfect choice for a lullaby. The music is soft and tender and you just flow along with it.
When I was little a song I remember very well is Scarlett Ribbons. My dad used to sing it a lot to me and my sisters when we were little. if something was wrong,he`d give you a cuddle and sing this to you. So, yeh, Scarlet Ribbons would be my lullaby. I used to sing it too, to my daughter when she was small. she had the most beautiful golden locks, still does, and I loved tying it up in lovely ribbons and now I`m getting carried away……. Bless you Alfie xxx

As a child, my family had several records of hymns and spirituals sung by the beloved American singer, Tennessee Ernie Ford. Poor Wayfaring Stranger was part of that collection, sung with the power and soul of TEF’s beautiful baritone voice. I’m very happy to know this song will be on STORYTELLER.
Thanks for a fabulous performance last night in Toronto. Your intimate approach, your engagement with the audience were genuinely heartfelt by all. The spotlight on the young was so nice to see. Lastly your performance was simply awesome. Your energy, your range were limiteless. Absolutely wonderful.
Thank you for being such a genuine person. Enjoy a well deserved rest with family and friends. A once in a lifetime event. Thank you again!!
Well this is another song that you’ve introduced to me that I had not heard before. I heard your version for the first time via You Tube from the USA tour. I loved it immediately (little sounds of appreciation from those filming shared by everyone who’s seen it). It was a fantastic surprise but it was as if youâ
You asked about our travelling songs. The other morning I was driving to work. The CD that day was ‘Bring Him Home’. A bus signalled to pull out in front of me so I pulled back and waved the driver out. Not sure what he would have thought if he caught me in his mirror – laughing out loud. The track I was listening to was ‘As if we never said goodbye’ and just as he flashed his thanks you sang the line ‘I’m not in any hurry’. Just one of many iittle stories I have of ‘On the road with Alfie’ – never in a hurry to get to any destination if it gets me one more track!
I really like Johnny Cash’s version of Wayfaring Stranger, because his voice is so striking and portrays the character in the story so well. Other versions are great. I love Eva Cassidy’s music. Her version of this song leans toward the jazzy side. I like it better when the presentation draws from the spiritual origins in the song’s tradition. Thus, Johnny Cash for me!!
Laura Wright sang Wayfaring Stranger at one of your UK concerts this summer which was beautiful; however, your version has been my out and out favourite of the US tour x
Saw you, Alfie ,in Northampton in January and we were blown away…..fab….fab…..fab. a golden evening for us! Can’t wait to see you again, meanwhile ‘Storyteller” is on my wish list.thank you so much
My traveling song would be “Young Turks”, by Rod Stewart. “Because life is so brief, and time is a thief, when you’re undecided. Like a fistful of sand, it can slip right through your hands.” This song comes to mind whenever I board a plane or get in my car headed for a new adventure. And thanks to you, Alfie, I have had the time of my life traveling and making so many new friends all because of your music. Life is too brief to let these moments fly by. Thank you for who you are and what you’ve brought to my life. And…the adventure continues….
My Granddaughter left college from Ann Arbor to Chicago, just to see you. The whole family (5) went to see you and when you went into the audience, she sang with you as a duet.
She then “fainted” (not really) She drove back to college at 11:00 pm and arrived at college at 3:00 AM
All just to see you.
She is your number one fan !!!!!How do we get an autographed picture of you to her??PLEASE Make a Grandfather happy for his Grand DAUGHTER
Thanx Cheerio
I saw your concert in Chicago on 10-24 and it was amazing. I liked your music before but the 2nd half when you went rock and roll was FANTASTIC!!!! Do you think you will do an album (showing my age) CD with those songs on it. Drum solo was GREAT did’n know you played. Many good wishes to you, wife, and children. You are Wonderful…
I felt like I had been reborn seeing Alfie live. So honest, genuine. And, talented. Made me want to sing again. Thanks for the gift of music, Alfie! Love you!
My favorite traveling song is “Two of Us” from The Beatles (Let it Be album) The lyrics, the guitar, the harmonies! I never get tired ot it. I`ve been listening to it for ages now and it is always in the car, ready to make me sing along
After seeing your show in Chicago, I’ve been enjoying your many Youtube videos! …for hours! The Chicago show was magic, fun, beauty, loud, and hilarious. Your “person” comes through with kindness and joy. Thank you so much.
However, now after seeing so many videos I REALLY hope that you will continue to do a rich variety of music. Your classical voice!!! Oh Lord!!!! Sheer beauty.
Thank you again sharing yourself and your gifts.
My wife returned to FL from your Springfield,OH concert and she is right – your voice lifts the soul! And her joy brings me happiness. I have been built-up & encouraged by your singing also. Thank you, Damian Carlson
Since I lost my husband to prostate cancer you have helped me to carry
on.I love your CD’s,Video and your
book and waiting for delivery of
Storyteller. I love all your songs
and hoped you could sing Time to Say Goodbye when you come to Nottingham in April as it is special to me. Love Joyce x
Its hard to decide what song I like but your Bridge over trouble water has hit a note with me. The words are how am feeling at this time having gone threw a operation for Breast Cancer, am starting my next bridge tomorrow Radiothrerapy tomorrow 26/10/2012.I will lye down and think of you singing that song to me. Lov always Julie x
My travelling album has to be Onward…nothing calms me more after a rotten day at work than A Living Prayer…by the time Im home Im fit to face the family!!
A couple of songs come to mind when thinking about traveling songs — “Leaving on a Jet Plane” by Peter Paul & Mary, and Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.” . The nature of my job is such that every few years I move to a new location, leaving sister, brother, nephews & sister in law behind. It’s always difficult to be separated from loved ones, but music — especially Alfie’s music — helps me cope.
Hi Alfie, I was lucky to sit/stand right up front at your absolutely awesome show in Chicago last night (the 24th). “Everybody’s talking” brought to my mind another “old” song of that era. Have you ever sung “MacArthur Park?” The lyrics are rather odd, but I can imagine your powerful voice nailing the crescendo and climax of that song! How I’d love to hear you sing it! Maybe someday?? Enjoy your day of rest…you worked hard for it!
Alfie,
Since that night in March 2011 when my daughter was flipping channels and stopped on PBS because they were showing Les Mis, I have been completely captivated by your voice. I searched out every shred of information I could find out about your career. I had not had a tenor voice affect me like that since Pavarotti! Through my searches, I happened upon many wonderful ladies who felt the same as I. I traveled to London with my mother to see you in your last week at the Queen’s. The first time I saw you was on my 45th birthday. I met some of my new friends that week. It was the most fabulous week of my life! This past May I traveled to Kansas City to see your first American concert and meet up with many more of my new friends.
Now my mother is now in the final stages of her battle with ovarian cancer. The friends I have made through your music have been helping to sustain me through this very difficult time in my life. Had it not been for you and your voice, I don’t know what I would do.
Thank you, Alfie. You have touched so many across the globe, simply by opening your mouth and using your God-given talent. You will never know how much that means to so many of us. Thank you to your family as well. They are very kind to share you with us as they do!
xo
Hmmmm…..what is my traveling song? It would have to be Willie Nelson’s ‘On the Road Again’. Life is so short and getting in my car and heading out on the road brings me great joy. The sense of freedom as the miles roll by with the music blasting lift my spirits and fill my soul with happiness.
My dreams are for my two beautiful Grand daughters. They have just lost their Mum, my daughter,to Huntington’s disease. This awful disease is generic they are both at risk of developing it. My dream is for a future free from HD, and a long and happy life for them both.
Loved…loved your Italian CD. You sang, on that CD to all of your strengths. No one can sing lyrically….like you. However, last evening at the Park West….well…Don’t do Being Alive. Start Poor Wayfaring STranger acapella…then build…cut all of the percussion solos…too long…though they were good…just to monotonous. Can see where these songs would be appealing…but
Your music has changed my life!! May God be glorified!!!!
If I Can Dream – That moment we found out our newborn son had a disability there was a mistaken tendency to believe that our dreams for him were shattered. It was a heartbreaking roller coaster ride until we began to realize our dream wasn’t shattered–it just shifted or changed. Oh, how this song exemplifies those days, weeks, months after my son, Joshua, was born with Down syndrome.
One day feeling like I couldn’t see beyond the darkness of my fears and then Josh would smile and it was the “beckoning candle” that brought me back to my dreams for him.
Another beckoning candle is Alfie Boe’s support of Nordoff Robbins. I can attest that music is an amazing developmental tool for those with special needs. My son’s first words were not spoken, they were sung. At 15 months old he repeated in song a repetitive little lullaby I had been singing to him. Music became another candle and has been a key to his speech and growing vocabulary. And now that same little boy, nearly 10 now, loves musicals, playing his drums and strumming his sister’s ukelele.
I’m grateful that I was able to express my appreciation to Alfie personally in Alexandria, VA, after his concert at the Birchmere. While Josh does not directly benefit from the charity, he benefits from the awareness created by Alfie Boe’s support of such a phenomenal charity.
We can work to make our dreams come true, but we must be open to new dreams which can be infinitely more rewarding.
I am buying storyteller for my dad, you move us Alfie, Les Mis was magic, thankyou for sharing so much with us and being normal. Family is everything to you thats why I Loved your book.you are heaven sent xx

“Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” was a favorite of my late husband’s and mine. It told our story.
Robert was a great Elvis fan. When The Elvis stamp came out, He went straight to the Post Office to get one and put it in his wallet. I still have it.
Alfie’s version of the song touches my heart and brings back wonderful memories. Thank You.
All these songs, bring back many lovely memories. Can’t wait to listen to the album over and over again. Sending you a big HELLO from Holland xx
I used to be asked to sing strange things to my children at bedtime, especially because my Son wasn’t keen on books, so I sang things like, Jungle Book, ‘Ooh ooh ooh, I wanna be like you hoo hoo’ and ‘When I see an elephant fly’, from Dumbo. Not exactly soothing, but bedtimes were more fun!!
Saw your show in Springfield Ohio last night and it was amazing. The power, richness, and fullness of your voice was on full display whether you were singing the little bit of opera you did, or rock, jazz, or musical theater. Your voice is soothing and thrilling all at the same time. And wow, I didn’t know you could dance like that. Great show. Come back to Ohio again, but this time visit Cincinnati.
What an outstanding show. I believe the Springfield,Ohio show was the first time any personality that performed in Springfield,Ohio got a standing ovation while he was still singing. Great performer.
I took my bestie to Alfie’s concert at the Wiltern last week. It was freaking amazing. It was seriously the greatest show I have ever been to. She was thrilled beyond belief, as he is one of her favorite artists. He went into the crowd to get people to join in on singing Drift Away and as he approached her to sing I mentioned that it was her birthday and he wished her a happy birthday. I have officially been dubbed the best friend ever, but could not have done it with out Alfie being so incredible and making her night so special. Thank you Alfie for an unforgettable night and for your contributions to the world! Keep on doing what you’re doing because you’re doing it well and I can’t wait for more!
Alfie, you rock! We are well aware Springfield isn’t the center of the universe, but tonight it was. You channeled Elvis (my favorite as well) and made my 71 year old feet stomp. Les Mis is a favorite, of course. You rock! Who knew? I can’t imagine that you can do this at every stop. Only wish I could have heard you do gospel. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Even old ladies need to rock!
Was there something wrong w/acoustics at Hartford show Thursday? You were drowned out by orchestra . . . sound not good. You were best w/just guitar player. Other than that . . . great show!!
Saw your phenomenal performance at the Bushnell in Hartford, CT. It was absolutely unforgettable. You are blessed with such a gift of voice and personality. I was absolutely transported to a place of beautiful music and talent.
You included the audience in all of your music and we had a blast! You are my new favorite boy!! I am now probably one of your biggest fans.
And it doesn’t matter what genre you choose, you are equally fantastic in all!!!! Your family must be very proud. This is what it’s all about Alfie.
well done Alfred love you Buster xxx
What a wonderful name for your new CD STORYTELLER. The songs you havwe chosen to include on this CD are so appropriate for the title.
Ever since I first heard Elvis sing CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU when I was young and a “Transiter Sister” Can’t Help has been one of my very favorite songs…and now you, Alfie, my new “love” since Robert Goulet’s passing, is singing that beautiful, moving song.
Thank you dear man you make me happier then word could ever express. Beverly <3 xx
The sweetest memories of motherhood are when I would hold my little boy in my arms and sing “All the Pretty Little Horses” to him while I rocked him in his darkened room. I would look out the window at the silvery shadows on bushes and trees from the moonlight. With each of my three sons, it was a bedtime ritual. I didn’t need to spend an hour singing to them each night for they fell asleep long before the hour was past, but it was our time together and so I guess in a way I needed to hold them close while they were small. Can’t Help Falling In Love With You was played at my sister’s wedding and a favorite of my late mother’s for she was a huge Elvis fan. However, when each of my three sons were born, it perfectly expressed how my heart was captured by each tiny little life.
my Dad has terminal cancer illness, and I can never be more miserable now in my life. He is a doctor and still insists to resume his duty, looking after his patients everyday. I am listening to “Bridge over troubled waters”,the lyrics are very meaningful to me at this moment, it reminds me how my dad has been my” bridge” all through the years. May god blesses him and everyone.
Lullabies have the power to evoke our earliest memories of the love of parent for child. My mother sang Brahms lullaby to me, and then, to my children. She would change the lyrics to suit herself. Her baby-whispering skills were legendary. No baby could resist sleep while being cradled by my mother, singing Brahms lullaby. May she rest in peace.
Was completely WOWed at your concert in Hartford,Ct last night. Your talent AND abily to entertain blew me away. Georgeous music, and jump out of your seat fun! Thank you so much for a wonderful evening.Purchasd your CD there and have played it all day today.Your “Bring him home”goes straight to the heart. Please come back soon!
The lullaby I sing to my kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews is The House on Pooh Corner by Kenny Loggins. My husband started singing it to my son and it has continued. Thank you Alfie for singing ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ it is the first Elvis song I ever heard and it is my mother’s favorite.
my bridge over troubled water would most definitely be my friends. they are always there for me if im feeling down or if times get rough they are a constant in my life and i can tell them anything and they wont judge they will just listen
The concert in Town Hall, NYC, on October 17 was one of the highlights of my year and one of the high points in my 15-year-old granddaughter Caitlyn’s life. Alfie turned in a spectacular performance full of stunning vocals, humor and audience participation. We were able to meet Alfie afterwards and I was happy to give him a gift for his mother, an arrow pin made of mother-of-pearl. The best part of the evening was when Caitlyn stood up and sang the chorus of “Drift Away” and got a hug from Alfie! She and I will never forget this night. I had traveled to London in September for Alfie’s performance in Hyde Park, but this was infinitely better.
i was introduced to alfie boe through the musical Les Miserables. He played valjean in the 25th anniversary and along with the music and his voice he quickly became my favourite singer. i then went to proms in the park in the summer and really enjoyed his repertoire. i cant wait for storyteller to come out and i cant wait to go and ssee him at the Edinburgh playhouse nest march. My dream would be to meet him someday, that would be perfect. thankyou alfie for providing the world with such beautiful music x
When I was a kid one of my favorite lullabies was “Hushabye Mountain” from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I was delighted when it appeared on your “Bring Him Home” CD. Another favorite lullaby that I discovered as an adult is “Count Your Blessings” by Irving Berlin from the movie White Christmas. I’d love to hear you sing that one some day.
Looking forward to adding “Storyteller” to my CD collection!
Absolutely amazing! I have all his CD’s and each one gets better than the last. I can’t wait until Nov. 12th to get Storyteller. Thank you for the insight! Fantastic Song Choices!
Lullabies have the power to evoke our earliest memories of the love of parent for child. My mother sang Brahmsâ
I am so very excited about If I Can Dream. It is arguably my favorite of all of Elvis’ songs. I have been excited since I heard Alfie sang it several weeks ago for a TV show to be televised later.
The song is so powerful and makes a strong statement. It is inspirational.
My only disappointment is that we didn’t get to hear more of the song in this storybook and it’s still a month away for the CD to come out.
Storyteller is one awesome CD.
Saw you tonight in Hartford CT what an awesome show. You went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. You have a beautiful voice and can’t wait for you to come back. I loved being able to go up on stage and dance with you were singing. Will remember this forever. You have the greatest sense of humor. I loved it when the woman came in late and you stopped singing so she could sit down and then told her thank you for coming….late. And kidding around with this couple about them being on a date. Thank you Alfie and to your band…we love here in the US.
It’s Over is a beautiful song and reminds me of the love my mom and dad had for each other. My father adored my mom so much. You could tell just by the way he looked at her without speaking a word. My dad passed away in February of last year. They were married 52 years. On their 50th anniversary I gave them a party that was like a wedding reception. They renewed their vows in front of family and friends. You could see the love as they held hands repeating their vows. Two weeks later my dad ended up in the hospital with liver and kidney failure and we were sure we were going to lose him. He was a fighter. We brought him home two weeks later and he started two years of kidney dialysis that really took a toll on him. My mom was there every step of the way. On the night my father died my mom told him it was okay he didn’t have to hold on anymore, it was okay to go. He looked at my mom and gave her a big smile knowing how hard that was not to ask him to stay. That to me is the hardest thing a wife can say to her husband and this song is about leaving your loved one until it is time for them to be together again in heaven. Everytime I hear this song it will remind me of the love that they shared.

I have introduced Alfie’s wonderful voice to my 8 students in my self contained special needs class. They love his music and it has opened an entire new world of music for them. Over the last week, we watched Alfie in the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Mis. The students became so engaged in the music and the story that they were cheering, banging the table, crying and singing the songs. I was blown away by their engagement in Alfie’s performance, as well as the other talented performers. Thank you for such a beautiful experience. Today we will be listening to the Storyteller during our quiet time. I can’t wait.
I love the Walker Brothers so very pleased to read that The Sun Ain’Gonna Shine Anymore has been added to Storybook. Another song by Scott Walker is “Joanna” I wwould love to hear Alfie sing that one! Looking forward to seeing Alfie next year at the Royal Albert Hall.
Love love the song “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.” There wasn’t a lullaby from when I was a kid, but I remember my mom telling me a story of when I was still a baby. She was having a hard time getting me to sleep each night, as for some reason I would just cry and cry and cry, and nothing she did would help. Finally one night, as she was holding me in the rocking chair trying to get me to sleep, she cried out to God, and He just gently told her to sing to me. So, she started to sing “Jesus Loves Me”, and almost instantly I stopped crying and fell asleep. All during my baby years she would sing me to sleep with that song.
It’s quite simple, when I’m feeling down I either sing The Hallelujah Chorus – very loudly! or if that isn’t appropriate I listen to Alfie -very loud! Bridge Over Troubles Water instantly takes me back to my teenage years, Saturday night at a friend’s house, lights down low, stacks of lovely vinyl on the record player and as much snogging as possible before the 10.30 curfew. Ah…those were the days!
My 9 year old niece, Beth, came home from school yesterday and said “Aunty Kim, I was thinking of you today because we were learning french and the teacher taught us to say “the weather is nice” and it sounded like Alfie Boe…”Il fait beau”…how sweet
Thank you for an amazing & fantastic concert at Town Hall, NYC on 10/17. May God on High bless you, your awesome talent & versatility …& your touching humanity. Pls come back to NYC soon! We love Alfie Boe!
Just saw you in NYC at Town Hall. You were soooooooooooooo great! Your band was terrific too. I loved your interacting with the audience and allowing us to sing and talk to you. I am an “older” fan but was up dancing, singing, waving my cell, and clapping. My friends and family gave me “entertainment ” money for my 75th birthday and I am thrilled I used some of it to see you! Years ago I wrote the lyrics for a “corny” country western piece. You’re welcome to it…no fee except a tix to see you perform it …,if you’re able to use it. I am proud to be a fan and hope you return to”my kinda town”real soon.xoxo,Lola
Oh Alfie…. you have the GREATEST trained voice but I was a disappointed Brit in your audience in Phoenix? You dont need to play to a casino audience, where was the music that made you? Why so much vacant rock and roll and the accompaniment was … no comment. Sorry,… we left before the end!!
Love your voice and I will buy your music!
Hello Alfie! My husband, Marc and I were so excited to see you last night at The Birchmere in Va! Somehow Ticketmaster generated 4 instead of the 2 tickets we needed. Oh well, I said, grrrrr said my hubster! lol Turned out that after living in Baltimore ,Maryland all our lives we became lost in D.C ( my husband even went to college in D.C.). By the time we found our way to The Birchmere you were in the middle of your Encore!!. SO! You were fantastic for the 15 minutes we saw you. It was an adventure to say the least. It might have only been 15 minutes, but well worth 4 tickets and a tank of gas. I’m just sad that we missed your Entire performance! You have the voice of an angel and I will remain a loyal fan! xo ~Janice
i love him and his music since i saw him singing in les Miserables, when Will he come to bring a show in my country, Belgium. Its not far away from the UK. I would love to see him too and i guess not me alone. Until than all the best Alfie

From the UK and saw Alfie in San Diego, Did love the show but would have enjoyed more Opera!
An extraordinary performance last night by you and your band. My Wife and I mentioned a song by Jackson Browne called the “Load Out/Stay”. Jackson tells the story of fans and roadies in this great song, it then moves into the great classic R&R song “Stay” by Maurice Williams.
We think that you and your band could do a reinterpretation that fits your voice of what is beautiful tribute by Jackson to his fans but more importantly to the roadies that are behind the scenes but that are a critical part of any band preparing for concerts.
Again, we think that with your powerful vocals and emotion that you put into songs you perform, that you can do a magical version of this song and then switch into the “Stay” portion of the song to rock the house down!
Here is the link to Jackson Browne performing at Shepard Bush’s Hall -
God Bless and looking forward to “Storyteller”; actually this song would fit in very well with the theme of the album.
Willing to bet that Jackson Browne might be willing to provide some production assistance….
Jackson is good friends with Bruce and Bonnie Raitt.
“Bridge Over Troubled Water”: one of my all-time favorite songs (encompassing all genres of music). Always brings me to tears (especially the original Simon/Garfunkel version; I haven’t heard yours yet). I remember exactly where I was and what year when I heard this for first time; it stopped me dead in my tracks, made an indelible impression, took my breath away, and hit me in the heart. I cry every time I hear it; the lyrics are so powerful and so intimate: the best kind of songwriting/story-telling. As a musician (who plays all kinds of music), I’m loving your short videos where you explain why you chose a piece of music, what the back-story is or the construction of the piece (verse/chorus or not), the original singers/writers, even how a snare drum hit resonanting through all mics made the ‘sad’ ‘hit’ of the lyrics break through a seemingly joyful song: great stuff. I wish all conductors (and performers) would ‘explain’ the music we/they are performing as you do: makes more musical sense and I get much more out of the playing and listening. I hope you wrote some of these things in the CD cover notes; look forward to eventually getting your CD in the U.S. I love how you know the background and construction of the songs so thoroughly; it makes your choice of music and performance so much more thoughtful and meaningful (which is rare for musicians in all genres; too many just approach their music in too superficial a way; so glad you never do). Best wishes.
The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine is a great choice – I do also like Make It Easy on Yourself. Like you say, considering it’s about breaking up and living without love they become such “good time” songs when you’re singing along to the radio! But then I’m lucky – the love of my life never went off and left me!!!
We love your singing and I play your disc in my car. My friend and I sing along!!! scary or what! We are both in our 80ties.LOL Your oldest fans.
I think mine would have to be “Love Minus Zero”. I love the tune and the words are so beautiful!!
Loved The Walker Brothers when I was a teenager; saw them live many times. The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore is the definitive record of my teenage years and when I hear Scott Walker sing those opening lines, I’m 14 again. Now I get to hear Alfie sing those same words- I can’t imagine what that’s going to do to me.
That was such a great performance, we had such a good time. You are the best Alfie. Thank You Again
as an elder fan of the walker brothers, i have all records of them and scott walker, brilliant songs, my special one: if you go away from scott
I am delighted to be able to see you live performing tonight at Wild Horse Pass! You are a true talent and professional, thank you for sharing your beautiful voice with us.
I am delighted to be able to see you live performing tonight at Wild Horse Pass! You are a true talent and professional, thank you for sharing your beautiful voice with us.
My darling daughter died Tuesday evening, so the sun has gone out of my life. But I’m sure it will shine again sometime.
Here’s a part of my story…I work with abused and neglected children. It can be and often is emotionally draining. Because of this I purposefully add beauty to my life to help me cope and be able to do my job about which I am passionate. Listening to you sing is one of the ways I add that beauty to my life. The richness of your voice, the purity of the tone, and the way you interpret songs blesses me and lifts my soul. My sweet husband, knowing how much I enjoy your voice, is sending me from our home in Florida to hear you in concert in Ohio on Oct 20th! I am so looking forward to hearing you in concert! Thanks for sticking it out with your music and not opting out when it looked like it was not working out. At least for me, listening to you sing brings me joy! Thanks for the music and for sharing it with us!
I’ve just been wanting to say this. I’m not familiar with the Walker Bros. songs but I do remember this song being popular back when. It reminds me of every high school crush I ever had that went down the tube and I think I had more than my share. That is indeed a miserable feeling. As for lonliness – it’s a completely subjective thing. A person can be alone, live alone, eat alone, etc. etc. and not be lonely at all. On the other side of the coin, you can live in a house full of people and be so lonely you feel like it will kill you. I’ve been in both places. I like the former rather than the latter.
Cant wait till your new CD comes out what I have heard so far its going to be the best 1 yet
x
Well, your words about The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine really got to me just now. I’m one of those lonely people, so I cried through everything you said. All I can do is what you said, carry on. Your music makes me smile. At least I have that.
Jane Parker, so sorry to read your post about your beautiful daughter. When you can, take refuge in Alfie’s beautiful music and the comfort and prayers of his fans – they are amazing people
my favourite is the wonderful haunting song Joanna!
To Jane Parker: I am so sorry for your loss! Your post brought tears to my eyes, and I just wanted you to know I’m lifting you and your family up in prayer right now.
I know that Scott Walker hated it but I loved Joanna – it had a sweep to it like the other Walker songs but a control and a sweetness that overcame the sadness of the song – I tend to shush people if it comes on the radio.
My darling daughter died yesterday, after a long illness. At the moment the sun has gone out of my life.
I am probably one of the biggest Walker Brothers fans and have a son called Scott to prove it. Please listen to their version of Love Minus Zero from their first album (L.P. as we called them), it will blow your socks off. Oh Alfie since knowing you and your work I have been hooked and love everything you have done but sorry First Love Never Dies (another amazing WB track) and I still prefer the original!!
Am a huge fan of Alfies seen him 6 times now
. I f there was anyone in the audience last Decmember at the Blackpool Opera it was me that bought the Matt Lucas mask that Jason Manford wore. I was gobsmacked I didnt know he was going to wear it. Alfie and where laughting about it when I saw him this Sep at the Trafford Centre. Lov u Alfie Julie xx
The lyrics to "Bridge Over Troubled Water" appeared on the graduate written exam for my master’s degree in English because it’s a "bad poem" in the eyes of the Powers-That-Were who created the exam questions. Zeitgeist of the times, I suppose. I sat thinking, "my parents didn’t pay tuition for me to critique a popular culture song." I answered the alternate question, failed it (!), but took an oral make up exam and passed. Surreal. BoTW is still played and popular to this day!
This is really my era, and I loved all the Walker Bros songs, but ‘make it easy on yourself’ is right up there. I really don’t know why I like this so much, must have had some teen angst at the time, and it helped me. So long ago though, I can’t recall. Your version of ‘Sun ain’t gonna shine’ sounds outstanding BTW
After listening to a few Walker Brothers songs, I’m gonna have to go with “The Sun Aint’ Gonna Shine Anymore.” I liked the sound of it, even though the words are sad. I’m single and live alone, and have many moments where I feel very lonely. If not for the Lord, my cat, and beautiful music to listen to, I don’t know how I would cope.
Favorite Walker Brothers? DEFINITELY “Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine!” You’re right about the message of heartbreak and loneliness paired with the sound of a joyful noise – that song got me through the summer after I graduated from High School. On Graduation Day, my boyfriend of 2 years broke up with me – WHO DOES THAT TO A GIRL?? But every time I heard “Sun” on the radio, I would smile; I was miserable, but singing along with that song as loud as I could eased my heartache. It had that therapeutic effect on me. Thanks for including it on STORYTELLER, I cannot wait to hear you sing it. xxâ
Looking forwrd to your upcoming conert & album. Waiting to hear tracklist. Hopefully one day you’ll sing “Soliloquy” from “Carousel” I realise it is almost absurdly long at almost 8 minutes, but it certainly tells a story and an emotional one at that. It seems there are few singers with the vocal and emotional range to tackle it. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed that given your liking for emotional story-based music and your love of children you will someday singiy. (You might need to hurry though since I am almost 70 years old – Haha!!)
Like so many others, I came to know you and your music at a very dark time in my life. It was March, 2011 and I received a call from my son who told me to turn on our local PBS station as they were playing the 25th Anniversary of Les Miz and he knew it was my favorite show. I tuned in and there you were. After hearing you sing that night, I felt that I found something I could hang on to and I bought all of your music I could find as well as buying and playing over and over the DVD of the Les Miz anniversary show. But that was just the beginning. Since that time, music has brought more joy into my life than I can say. I have branched out and now enjoy all types of music, some of which I never would have tried listening to before. It’s the thing I go to when I’m stressed and need to relax; it’s the thing I turn to when I need to smile. But it all started with you and your miraculous voice. What a gift you were given and thanks so much for sharing it so generously with your fans. See you in Chicago on the 24th of October. Can’t wait to hear you again in person.
To be honest, Alfie, I’d never heard of the Walker Brothers until watching your video about The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore, so I don’t have a favorite to share
I’ll go listen to some of them, though, and hopefully come back later with an answer.

When you sang “Wayfaring Stranger” in Dallas, it gave me chills! Love, love, love that song…so happy it’s on the new album. Now, how about “Hard Times Come Again No More”? It would be perfect for your brilliant voice. <3
P.S. Love the sexy photo on the cover, too!
When I was younger, I dreamed I would be a singer one day just like you Alfie but there was a lot of hurdles I climbed between a lot of prejudice and control. My father would beat me up if he heard I was pursuing my dream but since coming out that relationship with my mum your music make me feel there’s still hope for me for the future. I seen you at the Les Mis 25th concert and in my final year at the Hub Theatre School, Southampton. Although that we have not met yet, thanks for being a big influence in my music and looking to meeting you sometime!
I think when you did Les Mis 25, somehow God anointed certain people to “get it” and spread the word. Happily, since that moment in March 2011, I have been captivated! You brought the music back into my life at a time when everything was colorless and quiet; the only sound I heard was my own crying. I was severely depressed, recovering from an Eating Disorder that had consumed me for over 25 years. Something in your voice, and in your eyes, touched my heart and my soul, and my life hasn’t been the same since. Having had the privilege of meeting you and talking with you, as well as singing for you with the Rose Chorus, I know you are HUMAN and REAL – not out of touch and not out of reach – and I respect you immensely! You are a gentleman and a STAR! Thank you for being a “Storyteller” – you’ve added sparkle and new life to my own story! Bless ya Xx
My bridge over troubled water is….chocolate. Chocolate always makes me feel better!
An excellent job on this song. I venture to say, better than the original.
My beautiful daughter,Emma, is in a care home dying of Huntington’s disease. She is 31, and has two daughters aged 12 and 9.We visit at least once a week, a journey of over an hour. Although she cannot speak,or move Emma is always happy. She and my girls are my hope and joy, my bridge, even though both the girls are at risk of developing Huntington’s at any time. Listening to tour beautiful voice also helps to keep me sane. Thank-you.
Alfie, thank you for the gift of this song. My troubled waters was my daughter who was brain-damaged at birth. I had this song played at her funeral when she finally crossed over the Bridge of Troubled Waters to be with God.
My bridge over troubled water is….chocolate. Chocolate always makes me feel better!
Alfie, I have always loved ‘Bridge Over Troubled’ water for the same reason, and I am so glad the track is included on your album!
I recently finished your book- you are an inspiration for getting through hard times and still coming out on top!

Love the Storybook! #alfiestorybook
Alfie, this is a great song with a powerful message. We all have trials to overcome in life. I know you’ve bridged your share and am so glad you reached the other side safely. I pray we all learn from your inspiration with equal success.
Take care!
When you sing as you always do with your heart and soul you move peoples’ hearts. What a gift! Glad you choose to share it
Thank you for the beautiful music. You have a wonderful voice. I already have two of your albums, and am looking forward to getting your album Storyteller when it comes out in the US.
Thank you again, you and your music make the world a better place.
Can’t help falling in love with you is one of my most favourite tracks ever and am looking forward to hearing Alfie singing this track live in Birmingham next March. Going to be emotional no doubt.
I’ve been happily married for 25 years, so I don’t have a current break up song. Maybe someone should write a “I’ve been happily married for 25 years” song. Last time I broke up with someone, it was “I wanna know what love is” circa 1985.
Alfie, through you I have been brought into a circle of friends that have become my “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Your fans are as amazing and as special as you are. Last year, our grandson was fighting for his life. When I asked on the forums on the fan site for help in locating a stroller that his parents could borrow while he was having radiation treatments far from home, Deb from England called Massachusetts Children’s Fund in the United States who in turn provided our daughter and son-in-law with a brand new stroller. Sherrie from Salt Lake City, Utah, raised the money for the cost of the stroller and donated the funds back to the Massachusetts Children’s Fund. Love, support, letters, and encouragement poured in from your fans around the world. I was uplifted daily by new extended family.
One of your youngest fans, 9 year old Flo had a Christmas wish that you would sing “Bring Him Home” for our grandson. I told her my wish was that she would sing a song and dedicate it to him. She chose “The Impossible Dream,” a song she recorded with video.
The night our grandchild passed, half a world away, Flo and another young lady stood with you on stage and sang “The Impossible Dream” in Birmingham. During the interval, people attending the concert got word of the passing of our grandchild. We were told that when you sang “Bring Him Home,” it was the most raw, emotional version of it that they had ever experienced.
I guess what I am trying to say is that you are a very special kind of person and you draw very special people to you. The life long friends I have made through you carried me through one of the most difficult times in my life. They were my “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” That legacy will live on through the lives of the young people you have touched such as little Flo, a child whose Christmas wish was that Alfie would sing “Bring Him Home” for a little boy she had never met.
I am not the only one who feels as I do. There are many of us who have found our friendships, linked by you as the common bond, to be “The Bridge Over Trouble Water.”
Thank you for bringing us together. Thank you for being you.
When two of my friends used the lyrics from Bridge…as the vows at their wedding, it seemed more appropriate to me than the standard, “Do you promise to obey..” This song was written at a time when it seemed values and standards were in a jumble. Bridge was a beacon of hope in that time period. And my friends have suffered much sorrow in their marriage of 40 years!
“Bridge over troubled water” has a special meaning to me. My dad passed away back in 1998 and he was an organ doner. His eyes were given to a young man. There was a ceremony held in honnor of all the organ donors of that year and the Policemen Choir sang “Bridge Over Troubled Water” for the families who had lost a beloved one. It was very emotional. I will never forget that moment. And, somewhere, there is a man who can see because of my father`s gift:)
I think my answer to pretty much anything would be to ‘Go Home’. It’s the place where I can always feel better. Home to the family. And if they get too much for me? I put in my earphones, retreat to the kitchen, and listen to Alfie!!
Hi, Alfie Boe! I am a student from R.O.C. Naval Academy. Last year, I made my decision to join military, and as I wished I was in. Though the journey of training was pretty hard, in my mind I just wanted to be a navy soldier for honor and glory. After four months, I broke my ankle seriously when training, which made me even couldn’t walk. That made me upset, disappointed, and week. One day in the class, I was doing nothing but staring the A4 paper on the table and thought the words I always talked to myself, “I Have Nothing But Passion!” Suddenly, there came up a melody to my mind. I couldn’t help writting lyrics, and magically I made a song. Is that the sign from God? After eight months, because my injory never got better in there even worse, I applied to sespend from schooling for one year. At home, I sing, listen to music, and keep writting songs everyday. I am really enjoy it. However, there is still one thing bothering me. I have talent to sing from Alto to Soprano, and I even can sing as a tenor. Though I never dare to think about being a singer as my job befor, I dare now, maybe. If that is God want me to do, I’ll try. If it is not, I’ll go back school next year and be a soldier for the rest of my life. By the way, you are my favorite singer. May God bless you!
I’ve never heard the song “It’s Over”, so that will be a new one for me, definitely. I had trouble coming up with an answer to the question of what song I go to when experiencing heartache, as I listen to so many artists and love a lot of music. I think one that I definitely go to a lot, though, is Hayley Wesenra’s “The Prayer.” Now that I’ve added you to my repertoire of favorite singers, “Come What May” (my favorite love song) always puts a smile on my face, as does “Bring Him Home.”
Alfie your voice is pure magic and I adore it… have read your Biography and admire you SO much for your principles and you have MADE it with no compromises because you did what you believed in. Your voice gives me goose bumps and I am SURE your Dad is with you every step of the way. Longing to hear the new album and I am sure your U.S.A. tour will be sensational. God Bless always a devoted fan Georgina
My husband passed away in April after a brave battle with cancer.
Your pictures,tapes and videos are
helping me through a difficult time.
Have ordered Storyteller and got tickets to see you in Nottingham.
Roll on April X
We went to Alfie’s concert last night in Seattle. He was fabulous. Unfortunately he was not playing to the right up-beat audience that attends many of Seattles concerts. The audience was very gray haired and expected the opera singer of famed Alfie Boe. Instead we got a wonderful mix of music that really showed his talent. We fit in the gray hair category but loved his variety, enery, and carisma and informal stage presentation. He reminded us of our favorite group Pink Martini with his musical talent. We definitely will be followers.
For most people, their mum is a special person in their lives, but my mum was a VERY special person to me.
My dad sadly passed away over 35 years ago at the age of 37, leaving mum to care for 3 young children (aged 9, 6 & 3) alone. 6 months later she also lost her own mum to cancer & became carer for her dad when he suffered a series of strokes & a leg amputation.
Never once did I hear mum complain & we had the best of childhoods.
Unfortunately, when my brother, sister & I had grown up & she could finally find the time to enjoy herself again, fate struck another cruel blow when she herself became ill following a series of heart problems & strokes. She was also diagnosed with a number of other serious health problems & I put my own life on hold to become mumâ
Alfie, this is wonderful. So looking forward to the album. xx

I absolutely loved this track when I was a young teenager. It got me through some pretty tough times, through pressure at school, and at home. With 3 sisters in the house, our rendition was a thing to behold, even when my tone deaf sister joined in, but the whole thing improved when my Dad, with his beautiful soft tenor voice joined us. Thanks for the memory Alfie.
This is a great idea, Alfie! I’ve had a rather rough year with my finances and trying to launch a career as an author. The biggest thing that helps me through the tough times, is God. Without Him to cry out to, I would be lost. He is my bridge over troubled waters. I will sometimes also listen to my favorite music artists to help calm my spirit, Hayley Westenra and Owl City being a couple, and now you (just discovered you about 2 weeks ago <3 ). I look forward to hearing this song on your new album, as it is definitely one of my favorites. Good luck on your US tour – I hope I get to see you <3
Thank you Alfie for all you’ve done to enrich so may of our lives. When we’re sad, your singing soothes; when in need, it holds our hand; But for me when I’d lost all hope, your music spoke to my soul! Thanks for all the good things your music has brought to my life – YOU have been that Bridge over Troubled Water! X
I have your new album on pre-order and can hardly wait
‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ is a long-time favourite and I look forward to hearing your interpretation of it….sounds great on the video clip
What do I do when I’m feeling ‘down’ I listen to your music of course. You make me smile, you make me cry, and you make my heart skip a beat (or several!) but you always make me feel uplifted and you bring so much joy to my life
xx
Thank you so much Alfie
Having grown up with a parent with mental health issues and now having to care for both of my parents suffering ill health, there have been many times when Ive needed a “Bridge over troubled water” thankfully Ive found your music to take me there x
The songs on your new CD are shaping up to be the best selection ever. I can hardly wait for Wayfaring Stranger and the rest. You have the gift of choosing songs with so much feeling. They move us and shake us to the depths of our souls. Thanks, Alfie.
I am a woman of the 60′s & 70′s. That musical era was fantastic both lyrically and musically. You honor Simon & Garfunkel by singing Bridge Over Troubled Water. I am traveling 4 hours to see you in Pittsburgh. I can’t wait. You bring beauty and joy to my life. I thank you so much.
Alfie is right, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” was beautifully done by Simon and Garfunkel back in the day, but here he is building a new bridge for human hearts, a wonderful song for healing and peace.
Hi Alfie, A long time ago I started singing in the church junior choir and continued into Secondary school when in prep year approaching the Christmas concert three of the boys in the clas were performing The Three Kings unfortunately one of the boys took a throat infection and the music teacher didn’t know who to replace him with. On of the other “King” spoke up and said what about Ronnie? he’s the one that keeps hitting the top notes when we are singing the toreador song from Carmen. From there I went into the school choir as a boy soprano and continued for many years after leaving school in Amateur shows in Glasgow with the Glasgow Grand, the Glasgow Light and the Glasgow Lyric clubs and loved all of it. PS I met you when you were in Glasgow.
I was in college and madly in love when Bridge Over Troubled Water came out. This was our song. Even though we didn’t end up sharing our lives together, we have remained friends and truly been a bridge over troubled water for each other.
Through the turbulent 60′s Bridge Over Troubled Waters had significance to us all. Once again this song has a special meaning for me. My only brother died of cancer 7 months ago and my 83 year old mother has stage 4 cancer now. I lost my father 8 years ago. I will be the only person left in my family. To hear you sing this song gives me hope that I can endure this year and find inner peace. You’re amazing voice touches people of all ages. Thanks for sharing your special gift.
2012 has been an emotional and stressful year for me with the death of my dear Dad and my Mom’s health issues. The economy has created additional pressure at work. Alfie Boe’s wonderful music, charming personality and marvelously unfolding story have lifted my spirits through it all. Thanks for being my Bridge Over Troubled Waters!
Alfie, your music has been the “bridge” for me many times over the past year and a half. And through you and your voice, I have gained many new, dear friends that lift my spirits on a daily basis. Thank you for being that “bridge” for so many people. God bless.
I have loved this song for decades, and I am thrilled that it will be on the new album. I am blown away by your ability to turn anything you sing into a sensory masterpiece. So many of your songs just reach into my soul and touch me deeply. Thank you for singing from your heart! Blessings on you, Alfie!
Alfie, I have always loved ‘Bridge Over Troubled’ water for the same reason, and I am so glad the track is included on your album!
I recently finished your book- you are an inspiration for getting through hard times and still coming out on top!
Alfie’s albums have got me through troubled times!
The video of Alfie in the kitchen with Matt Lucas always makes me feel better.
I love Bridge Over Troubled Water too..it’s helped me through some hard times, knowing you can always get through. #alfiestorybook
